Review: The Body Shop Pinita Colada

Ok, so it’s summer time and we should be celebrating with our feet up in the sunshine, BBQ and cocktails in the garden. But this is England, so it’s more like wellies, mud and rain. So if you need to bring a little sunshine into your lives, I know exactly the product to do so…

I’ve said in a previous blog post how much I love The Body Shop products, and this range really does not disappoint. They’ve capitalised on the popularity of coconut oil, and with fresh ingredients hand-harvested from the Caribbean, have come up with a selection of products that’ll have you drifting away to the Caribbean with a cocktail in tow.

The Pinita Colada range consists of 4 products, the ever popular body butter (£14.00), the body sorbet (£8.00), the shower gel (£5.00) and the body scrub (£15.00). When I ventured into my local Body Shop, the majority of this range had sold out and I was only able to purchase the sorbet and shower gel. But at the earliest opportunity, I will be returning to purchase the other two items, it really is that good.

I have to say I’m not the biggest fan of coconut smells as sometimes they can be a little artificial and ‘sickly sweet’, but it wasn’t the case with this scent. In fact, the prevalent smell is pineapple with the coconut coming through as a complimentary smell, leaving the resulting scent more fresh than sickly. It also lasted for quite a lot of the day, not overpowering, but subtle. One thing I would say is that you don’t want to wear any perfume once you’ve used it, as it may clash with any floral scents – use a fruity fragrance to compliment it instead.

I’ve never had a body sorbet before, and I have to say I am impressed with the quality of the product. It soaked into the skin immediately, and didn’t leave a greasiness to the skin that I dislike about moisturiser. It felt so lightweight, you didn’t feel like you were wearing anything, but was so moisturising and rich, even more so than the body butters. I tend to use this straight out of the shower, and it left my skin feeling so silky and smooth to touch, something that lasted all day.

The shower gel has that same freshness about it. It lathered up beautifully and I really felt refreshed after using the gel. The fact that it is ‘soap free’ also adds to its appeal, as those of you with sensitive skin will be able to use this without irritating your skin. I sometimes find that my skin can go a little dry, especially on my arms, and being soap free means that it won’t dry out my skin. I’d say the fruity smell isn’t as strong as other products, but when combined with the sorbet or body butter, it’d enhance its strength.

Overall, if you love the tropical smell of a Pina Colada, this is the range for you. Whether you’re going away on holiday or remaining right where you are, bring a piece of the Caribbean to your bathroom.

Now, where’s my coconut bra and grass skirt? “If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain…”
