The 12 Days of Blogmas: Day 11 – Christmas Day Makeup Tutorial

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is nearly upon us, and whilst I’m busy running around making sure last minute presents are brought and any late gift wrapping is completed, I thought I’d bring you my go-to look for Christmas: A Red lip, winged liner and plenty of sparkle. Enjoy!

As before, I need a heavy duty primer and foundation so I’m using the Maybelline Matte Primer and the Makeup Revolution Priming Water, for maximum help. Once dry, I’m using the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in the shade NC20. I’m trying not to use too much concealer under my eyes, because I’m having a bit of trouble with them creasing, so I’m only using a tiny bit of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in the shade Fair Light.

I’m using a tiny bit of this Makeup Revolution Ultra Strobe Cream on top of my foundation to add a little shimmer to the high points of my face, but not too much – my combination skin can’t handle it! I then set all this using the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in the shade Translucent, to make sure it all stays put.

Face done for now, I move onto my eyes. Using the Morphe 35K palette, I use shade 1 all over my lids, and use a small pencil brush to apply shades 2 and 3 through the crease, finishing with shade 4 on the outer corner, blended along the crease. I also use shade 5 to darken the outer corner, and finally use a fluffy blending blush to blend away any harsh lines.

This is a great palette as an alternative to the Beloved 35O palette. After failing to get the 35O I caved and brought this one instead, and haven’t regretted this decision. The shades are cooler in tone than the 35O, which makes them more suitable to winter looks. I will be reviewing this palette in more depth at a later point.

I create the wing with the Soap and Glory Supercat Fat eyeliner. I love this pen for creating a winged eye; it has a straight edge on one size and a fatter curved edge on the other, which is great for creating a precise line and filling it in. I also run the Rodial Smoky Eye Pen in Black to tight line the upper lash line and finish the eyes off with a couple of coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, which I just love at the moment. I don’t tend to use false eyelashes unless it’s a special event, but you could add your favourite pair at this stage. I then run those same Eyeshadows along the lower lash line to create a smokier effect.
I fill in my brows using my trusty NYX Micro Brow Pencil in the shade Brunette, and then set them in place using the Maybelline Brow Drama in the shade Dark Brown.

Back onto the face: using the Collection Highlight and Sculpt Contour Kit, I lightly contour my cheekbones, and highlight my browbone and cheekbones. I then enhance the cheekbone highlight with the Essence Luminizer Palette.

I also dab on a tiny bit of the Zoeva Spectrum Blush Palette, with that bottom left shade, just to warm up the cheeks. I don’t want too much going on with the bold lip, so you need to go in with a light hand and blend out!

Finally, the best part! The red lip! There’s a whole host of colours to choose from this time of year, but I think the best festive shades are the true reds and I always go for these. This yet I’m using the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick, in the shade Lady Balls, which is a gorgeous true red lipstick that lasts ages. Perfect for all that Christmas eating and drinking!

And that’s your finished look! Excuse my pyjama top; I was having a lazy day whilst getting ready and didn’t want to get makeup all over my party clothes. If you’re anything like me, there’s every chance I would spill foundation all over my skirt! (The pyjamas are from Next, FYI)

Merry Christmas everybody!
