First trimester update

Although I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant (at the time of writing this) and well into my second trimester, I thought I’d do a little update on how the pregnancy has been going so far, and how I’ve been feeling throughout it.

As it’s my second pregnancy, I’m a LOT more relaxed than I was with the first. When I was pregnant with Owen I used to worry about every little ache and pain, but I have to say this pregnancy – so far – has been a complete breeze! I guess I’m more in tune with the subtle nuances that your body goes through during these early weeks, and haven’t had to turn to Google half as much as I did the first time, but I feel a lot more relaxed and happy this time.

Suffice to say, I’ve had NO symptoms whatsoever! (I know, I’m one of THOSE people…). I don’t know whether I’d rather have some pregnancy symptoms because at least I’d feel pregnant; not having anything is a little bit of a double-edged sword because – whilst I can enjoy these changes without feeling sick to my stomach – no symptoms makes it hard to actually feel pregnant.

The only thing I had very early on was hormonal spots. I knew that something was up, as I don’t usually get spots at all anymore (I didn’t really throughout my teens either), and they don’t really strike when I’m on my period, either. The last time I had a BAD outbreak was right after I gave birth to Owen, and this was due to the excess hormones in my body, so when my skin flared up at the beginning, I knew it was hormone related.

One thing I have noticed, and I don’t know if this is specific to my second pregnancy or second pregnancies in general, but I did start showing a lot earlier this time round than with Owen. Before, I didn’t look pregnant until 4/5 months, but this time, from 9 weeks you could see a little roundness in my stomach. It’s proved a lot more difficult to hide from people this time; obviously I didn’t want to say anything too soon, or certainly before the 12 week scan, but it’s been difficult covering up especially with all the hot weather we’ve been having.

For me, the second trimester was worse than the first because I had God-almighty heartburn (Acid reflux) throughout, and lasting right up until Owen came. As of yet this hasn’t started, but I hope it keeps its distance this time round!
